Can you briefly describe your background and the path that led you to your current position at Burgmann Packings?
I've spent over a decade in the sealing industry, holding various roles that helped me gain extensive experience across different functions. My first job in the industry involved customer support in a high-tech sealing technology firm, which equipped me with crucial insights into customer needs and product applications. When I joined Burgmann Packings, I handled marketing, customer relationship management, and sales support. Recognized for my performance, the management team entrusted me with an operational role in addition to my existing responsibilities. I currently serve as the Marketing & Operations Effectiveness Manager, overseeing internal improvement projects that align with our long-term strategy.
What is your role at Burgmann Packings, and how does it contribute to the overall objectives and goals of the company?
In my role as Marketing & Operations Effectiveness Manager, I not only promote the company via social media but also work on optimizing processes to enhance operational efficiency. We relocated our plant at the end of 2022 and conducted several layout improvement projects, which has helped improve production efficiency to better meet customer demand.
What's one significant way your role or responsibilities have evolved since you started at Burgmann Packings?
Initially, I was in the sales department, handling marketing and sales support. Transitioning to operations wasn't an easy task. Besides my marketing duties, I now focus on managing on-site lean production, conducting lean training for employees, and eliminating waste. This cross-functional approach has allowed me to utilize resources effectively and improve productivity.
As a leader within the company, how do you foster creativity and innovation among your team members?
I promote a culture where everyone is encouraged to share ideas and opinions. I foster communication and interaction amongst team members, encouraging them to ask questions, share insights, and seek feedback. This creates a trusting, open, and diverse team environment that enhances innovation.
The sealing industry, like many others, is undergoing significant changes and advancements. What innovations or trends do you see as most impactful for Burgmann Packings in the near future?
With China's automobile, machinery, chemical, and electric power industries developing rapidly, demand for seals, as integral components, is growing. We are focusing on adopting advanced foreign technology, localizing, and innovating to promote industry upgrade and improve quality. Our objective is to drive technological innovation, build our capabilities, and enhance competitiveness to meet future challenges and capitalize on development opportunities.
What's your favorite part about working at Burgmann Packings, and why?
I particularly enjoy working on-site improvements. Even the smallest idea can bring significant enhancements, provided there's a keen eye for detail in everyday work. My belief is that if we can start with the minutiae and gradually incorporate the lean concept into daily production, we'll see unexpected gains. It's not about adapting to a fluctuating production plan, but rather learning to manage those changes effectively.
